Please join us for the opening reception of Harvest: Three Artists on Wednesday, September 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Harvest: Three Artists is an art show in our taproom featuring work by Adi Blaustein Rejto, Mayuko Fujino, and Tanya Marcuse.
The farm offers a multitude of inspiration, and this exhibition aims to display how these three artists incorporate the farm into their practices. This ranges from the material, the mythology and history of apples themselves, and the ecological cycles of the apples and the life they sustain around them.
There will be artist talks at 6 pm, and an orchard walk with the artists at 7:15 pm. Romanaccio will be serving wood-fired pizza from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.
★ ADI BLAUSTEIN REJTO ★
Adi Blaustein Rejto makes oil paintings and frescoes using hand-processed pigments gathered from clays, minerals, and earth. Her practice centers on place-responsive images emerging through relations with land, material, community. She is the Apprentice Fresco Instructor at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Alongside Lara and Noa Castro Lema, Rahel Goetsch, and Cristobal Garcia Belmont, she co-runs Fresco Como reunión, a community fresco workshop in Madrid. She grew up in, and lives in Woodstock, New York.
“My relationship with Rose Hill started when I met Kevin Clark at the 2024 Pomological Exhibition. With Kevin and Rose Hill, I’ve been able to learn about the nature of change from the apple, which for me has become a symbol of transformation and resilience. For my 2025 exhibition, The Possibilities of Apples, at Bad Water in Knoxville, TN, I came to Rose Hill to paint the orchard, various varieties of apples, and relish in Kevin’s incredible selection of apples, Pomona’s Gifts (included in this show). Rose Hill continues to inspire peculiar dreams of mine, where any apple seed can contain another possibility, another possible world.”
★ MAYUKO FUJINO ★
“I am a self-taught stencil artist originally from Japan, now based in Copake, NY. I create natural pigments from invasive plants and weeds gathered locally. As an active member of the local birding community, I interview local birders, farmers, and scientists for my radio program Beakuency: Meet Bird People in Hudson Valley! on WGXC 90.7FM. Their stories and insights are the main inspiration for my artwork.
With guidance from Kevin and Dallas, I’ve been making lake pigments from pruned branches and thinned apples that were left in the orchard after seasonal operations. For the pieces included in this exhibition inspired by Rose Hill Farm, I used those pigments, colors from weeds growing among those same trees, and invasive plants collected locally. The subject matter and the colors of these pieces reflect parts of the farm’s ecosystem.”
★ TANYA MARCUSE ★
Tanya Marcuse (b. 1964) is an American photographer most known for her large-scale photographs that explore the imperiled natural world. Her projects use increasingly fantastical imagery and elaborate methods of construction to explore cycles of growth and decay and the dynamic tension between the passage of time and the photographic medium.
Marcuse earned her MFA from Yale University. Her work is in public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the George Eastman Museum, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. She teaches at Bard College and is based in the Hudson Valley.
“I’ve returned to Rose Hill Farm again and again over the last several years. I’ve photographed the sunflower fields after the frost for Canto XIII, used branches from the Lady Apple orchard to build Kingdom Nº 7, and even found inspiration in the farm’s compost. Every visit reminds me that Rose Hill is not only a beautiful orchard, but an unusually generous one. I’m grateful for the encouragement and trust they’ve shown me, and for the many ways the farm has become part of my work.”
